The Smarter Summers Program Closes the Achievement Gap
THINK (Teaching, Helping, Inspiring, Nuturing, Kids) Together continues to demonstrate that its mission IS possible with the right educational model, the right staff, the right community partners - like the Walmart Foundation and the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) - and the right district partners that collaborate with us to ensure summer learning supports student success. By all accounts, the Smarter Summers program – offered in concert with the Baldwin Park, Elk Grove and San Diego Unified School
Districts and the Mountain View School District – were successful in curtailing summer learning losses through a focused curriculum and structured, purposeful hands-on learning activities. Seventy-seven percent of the students enrolled in the Smarter Summers program improved their math vocabulary fluency with Elk Grove USD posting the highest growth rate with 80% of their students improving. The results showed that THINK Together students had stronger math vocabulary knowledge, as a result of attending the Smarter Summers program.
