THINK Together’s Alicia Maciel named a Trustee on the Brea Olinda Unified Board of Education

Alicia Maciel, THINK Together’s Director of Strategic Initiatives, has been appointed as a trustee to the Brea Olinda Unified School District’s Board of Education, filling a two-year seat vacated by former board member Mike Condiff.

Maciel was one of nine candidates who applied to the board to fill the empty seat. She was the only one of nine to be approved unanimously by the board. The term will run through Dec. 2014.

“This was an amazing group of talented and dedicated candidates coming forward with the desire to serve and give back to the Brea Olinda community,” said Superintendent A. J. “Skip” Roland after Maciel’s appointment.

Maciel was sworn in at the Brea City Council Chambers on Monday Dec. 10 by former California Secretary of Education Marian Bergeson. Bergeson has a long career in education as a former teacher and school board member for Newport-Mesa Unified School District. In addition to her stint as secretary of education, she served as a state senator, state assemblywoman and Orange County supervisor.

“My passion and commitment to education motivated me to apply for the seat on the board, I’m honored to have been appointed from such a qualified pool of applicants.  Not only will this opportunity allow me to make a difference for our Brea students, but it also perfectly aligns with my professional career at THINK Together where we focus on enabling students to reach their full potential,” said Maciel.

Alicia joined THINK Together in November of 2010, and prior to that she worked with nonprofit and for-profit executive and interdepartmental project teams to develop thorough strategic and leadership development plans as Principal of On the RISE, Inc. Throughout her career, she has contributed to organizations such as the Chevron Corp., The Walt Disney Co., KRAFT Foods and the UCI Medical Center. She also taught management courses related to entrepreneurial leadership and new venture launch at California State University, Fullerton. She holds a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Maciel lives in Brea with her husband and two sons.
