From THINK Together student to program leader
Emmanuel Rodriguez is currently attending Santa Ana College. Emmanuel’s major is Human Services and his goal is to earn an associate in arts degree in human development and then transfer to a Cal State University.
At Santa Ana College, he’s taken American Sign Language Courses, which have been very helpful because he can communicate with his deaf friends and with other hearing impaired individuals.
Emmanuel, or Mr. Manny as his THINK Together students call him, has been working with the academic support program since May 2012. He started out as a substitute program leader for a week at Hoover and he was then offered to stay as a permanent program leader. He enjoys working with kids.
“I have an immense passion for educating the youth especially kids with special needs” Rodriguez said..
“In Manny’s short time here, he quickly built relationships with his students,” said site coordinator Dennise Bailon. “Emmanuel treats each student as an individual and is interested in their personal progress. He’s always looking for opportunities to take things to the next level. It’s a pleasure working with Mr. Manny.”
Rodriguez is happy he’s working with kids and making a difference in their educational career.
“I remember when I was a student at Davis Elementary I would tell Site Coordinator, Jose Candelas, when I grow up I want to be like my afterschool teacher,” Rodriguez said. “Knowing that I’m helping and making a difference in a child’s life is what I enjoy most about working with THINK.”
