In the spirit of the season, THINK Together students in La Puente received holiday gifts from the food distribution giant Sysco Los Angeles

santa Sysco CEO Joe Barton and studentsTHINK Together students in the Bassett Unified School District received visits from Sysco Los Angeles corporate volunteers during their last week of program before Winter break.

Sysco Los Angeles corporate volunteers held holiday gift giving events for all THINK Together students in the Bassett Unified School District. The events were a surprise to all the students.

During THINK Together’s extended learning time program, the students were asked to create and decorate an ornament that showed their favorite hobby or activity. Sysco Los Angeles’ employees used that information to then purchase holiday gifts for the THINK Together students.

The first gift-giving event was held at Van Wig Elementary and then at Don Julian Elementary. The second round of gift-giving took place the following afternoon at Edgewood Academy and then at Sunkist Elementary. The final gift-giving event was held at Torch Middle School.

The students’ joy and excitement was contagious as they rushed to see what was beneath the wrapping paper. Once opened all the students proudly began to share what each other had received. One middle school student shouted in excitement, “Socks! I so needed socks, yes!”

The holiday season is more that just a vacation from daily routines, it’s an opportunity to give back. An opportunity that Sysco L.A. takes very seriously.

  1. This story brightened my day well after the holidays. I simply want to say thank you to the folks at Sysco for their generous spirit and heart in bringing joy to these students. And I will smile all day to think of the young middle school student who was so happy with a simple gift of socks!
