Program Leaders, School-Based Programs

Under the supervision of  a Site Coordinator, a  Program Leader works with a group of approximately 20 students in a classroom setting in a THINK Together after school program at a public school in which at least 50% of the children come from low-income households.  Our after school programs typically serve children for three to four hours per day, from the time school closes until about 6 p.m.

Program Leaders:

  • Provide homework assistance, academic enrichment and physical activity, using curriculum and materials provided by the program;
  • Must be available for full program time, five afternoons a week – specific times and schedules vary, depending upon assignment;
  • Work 15-20 hours per week, with most positions closer to 15 hours.

Most Program Leader time is spent directly working with students.  Program Leaders also attend regular staff meetings and occasional trainings; they are also paid for this time.

Minimum Educational Requirement: Varies with assignment; most positions require either completion of at least two years/48 semester units of college or an AA degree or the ability to pass a district examination for instructional assistants.

Minimum Experience: Relevant experience in  working with children.  Ability to speak Spanish is an asset at many of our school sites.

Hourly Rate: $11-13 per hour, depending on education, experience and assignment.

Training provided.

Program Leader Substitutes

THINK Together also hires Program Leader substitutes.  If you meet our qualifications but are not currently available for all five afternoons a week, we encourage you to apply to substitute for us on the days when you are available. This is a great way to learn if this work is for you!

Working in a Community Site

THINK Together also hires Site Coordinators and Program Leaders to work in our community-based programs.  (Our community sites are residentially based while the positions above are school based.) These programs are somewhat more focused on tutoring and homework support; staff work more with the community and families than with school personnel.  Salaries, educational and other requirements (Live Scan, TB Test) are comparable.

THINK Together is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
