Welcome to the Bay Area page. On this page, you will get to know our team, learn about job openings and stay on top of what’s happening with the schools and students we serve. In the Bay Area, THINK Together provides extended learning time programs to 20 elementary and middle schools in San Jose Unified, Newark Unified and Alum Rock school districts and ACE Charter, serving more than 2,000 kids every day. Program components include academics, enrichment and health/fitness. This summer, the Bay Area After-School All-Stars board announced it was ending its affiliation with the national organization and joining THINK Together, combining forces to provide enhanced benefits to the students and families served in three school districts. THINK Together was formed in 1997 and with this merger will provide afterschool and early learning programs to nearly 140,000 students in more than 420 locations and 35 school districts from San Diego to Sacramento.

Our Team

The Bay Area is served by six full-time staff members, including an executive director, 20 site supervisors and more than 130 part-time program leaders.  We strongly believe in growing our employees and hiring high-quality staff from the communities in which they serve.

Mario_Bay AreaMario Vargas, Executive Director, is responsible  for fund-development, school district and community relations. Mario’s career in non-profits began with the YMCA, where as a teen volunteer in youth sports he developed his skills for motivating youth. He joined Bay Area After-School All-Stars in July of 2011 and began serving THINK Together Bay Area in July 2013. Mario has more than 30 years of nonprofit leadership and has been able to expand and increase the reach of the organization in various communities through board and staff development, community collaborations, and creative programming. Mario holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of California, Davis and has achieved national recognition as a Multicultural Executive and a Healthy Communities Partner. Throughout his career, he has been able to expand and increase the impact of the organization in various communities through board and staff development, community collaborations, and creative programming.

Josh_FelixJoshua Felix, Director of Operations and Integration, Northern California, oversees the operations and integration of THINK Together’s newest region based in the San Jose Bay Area. Joshua joined THINK Together in 2006 and has served in a variety of leadership roles. He began his tenure with THINK Together as a Site Coordinator and moved into Human Capital as Recruiting Operations Manager and was later named Director of Staffing. In his organization-wide positions in Human Capital, Joshua developed and implemented standardized staffing systems and co-lead the integration of Moreno Valley in the Riverside County Region and facilitated the launch of the Sacramento Region in 2011. Josh holds a Bachelors degree from the University of California, Irvine and holds a Professional in Human Resources certification from the Society for Human Resource Management.
