THINK Together and local community members lend a helping hand to Make A Difference

“Make A Difference” day is the largest day of community service in the nation. Thousands of projects are planned every year for this national day of doing good.

Uniting locally to improve the lives of others gives people a chance to connect and build a flourishing community. When people are proud of something they stand up for it. Creating strongly knit communities also creates leaders, who are willing to make the changes needed to live in a healthier and safer environment.

THINK Together participated by hosting events for volunteers to “Make A Difference” within their local communities.

This year THINK Together had two “Make A Difference” day events for the community.

THINK Together’s Early Literacy Program in Orange County hosted a Book Doctor event.

The Book Doctor event attracted various groups. The Book Doctor volunteers included the National League of Young Men, AmeriCorps, Popular Community Bank, Joni’s Angels Club of Fountain Valley High School, Servite High School, Santiago High School Key Club, CSUF Archery Club, Beatitudes of Our Lord School and California Scholarship Federation of Garden Grove High School.

Some 80 volunteers gave 160 hours of volunteer service and ended up cleaning a total of 3,244 books.

These books will then be distributed back into the orange county community and into the hands of children.

Victoria Elementary in Redlands also hosted a “Make A Difference” day event.

The elementary with the support of community and THINK Together adopted a neglected garden. This created the perfect opportunity to give back to the local community on “Make A Difference” day.

THINK Together hosted a garden clean up event in which 60-plus volunteers attended to lend a helping hand. Volunteers came from the local community, University of California Redlands, University of California Riverside and the Be Collective youth church group.

At the end of the event, 6,500 square feet of overgrown weeds and bushes had all been removed leaving a blank canvass for the new garden that is about to be developed.

THINK Together believes there doesn’t have to be just one day in which to give back to our communities. We can make a difference everyday no matter how small the act. Just like the famous Howard Zinn said, “Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.”
