What is THINK Together?
THINK Together is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting educationally at-risk youth from low-income areas by providing academic support and homework assistance. THINK Together operates sites in the following areas: Orange County, Foothill Region, Whittier/San Gabriel Region, and the Inland Empire. For more specific information on our locations visit our locations page by clicking here.
What will I do while I am volunteering at the site?
THINK Together's main focus is academic reinforcement through homework help, tutoring, and reading assistance. You may also have the opportunity to work with the students in art or science projects as well as outdoor games and activities.
How do I sign up?
There are two ways to sign up to volunteer! You may apply online or you may pick up and complete the necessary forms at the THINK Together Home Office. Your profile and preferences will be used to determine where you will volunteer, taking day, time, and interest into account.
What do I do now that I have signed up?
Once you have filled out the necessary documents and attended a volunteer orientation, you may be assigned to the location of your choice or we can match you with the most suitable site. You will be contacted either by phone or e-mail. If you are concerned that your on-line application was not received, please contact the Volunteer Department at (714) 543-3807 x 8142 / x8108
When do I start?
You may start once you have been cleared by the volunteer department of your approved site placement.
Whom do I contact if I have problems while at the site?
Your greatest resource while volunteering in the after school program is the Site Coordinator. You should address any problems to her/him, especially problems related to your schedule. If you encounter problems at the after school program, please address your concerns with the Site Coordinator immediately. If problems recur and/or are not addressed, please contact Tom Linnert, Director of Volunteer Development at tlinnert@thinktogether.org or (714) 534-3807 x8142.
What are the program's requirements for my attendance?
Although there is no minimum requirement, volunteers typically commit to volunteering 1 day a week for 1-2 hours. Once you have established a schedule with your Site Coordinator, please maintain that schedule as much as possible. The students do count on your presence and rely on your assistance and support.
What if I need to miss a volunteer session?
If you find yourself in the situation that you may need to miss a volunteer session, inform the Site Coordinator with as much lead time as possible so that other arrangements can be made in your absence. Volunteers are truly the heart of our after school programs. Please recognize how valuable and important you are to THINK Together and to the success of the students.
Do I need to attend a Volunteer Orientation Workshop before I can begin volunteering?
Attending a Volunteer Orientation is mandatory. THINK Together offers Volunteer Orientation Workshops several times throughout the year to give new volunteers an idea of what to expect at the site as well as to guide them through the necessary paperwork. Please refer to our calendar for upcoming orientations this month.
Exclusive orientations are offered to groups of 40 or more and may be arranged at a convenient time and location for clubs, organizations, and churches.
Please call the volunteer department for more information.
Do I have to complete a background check in order to volunteer with THINK Together?
Adult volunteers must complete a background check before working with children under the age of 18 in the state of California. Forms can be obtained at the home office. However, if you are under 18 years of age, a background check is unnecessary at this time.
Do I have to show TB clearance in order to volunteer with THINK Together?
